Yep, the vet put Tippy on a diet. He's only gained four ounces in the two years we've had him, but the vet thought we should cut back on his food to 1/2 cup morning and evening rather than leave his bowl full all the time. We thought we'd start cutting back gradually so gave him 3/4 cup this morning. Guess what! It's evening and doesn't look as though we'll need to give him any more tonight. Know what I think we've got to cut down on? His kitty treats. Only four or five pieces a day, said the vet, instead of 15 or 20! Now that's something Tippy's not happy about!
I've cut back on my food, too, the last two weeks. Not that I'm trying to diet (although I know I should!), but because the dentist's substitute technician pressed too hard on my teeth when trying to remove the plaque. She pushed so hard on the inside of my upper front teeth, that not only do they ache, they also don't hit my bottom teeth right and I'm unable to bite and chew properly! In fact, I don't even want to think about eating, even though the dentist did an extra procedure to correct the problem. They're getting better, but I'm sure it will take at least another trip to the dentist's office before everything is OK. Maybe I'd better see a good attorney instead!!
If we're not careful, it's so easy, like Tippy, to cut back gradually on our spiritual food, reading less and less of the Bible until we stop it completely. Ditto for our prayer life.
On the other hand, how much better we would be if, like me, you chew and chew and chew on your spiritual food until you can swallow it. That's called "meditation," by the way. In other words, think, think, think on what you have read, and then pray without ceasing.
Here's a question for you. Spiritually speaking, are you more like Tippy or more like me?
Just wondering!
